Our History
Lambert-Tatman Funeral Homes & Crematory traces its roots to the dedication and vision of Joseph H. Lambert, a Parkersburg native raised in a close-knit, hardworking family. Joe began working in funeral service as a teenager and developed a lifelong passion for helping others during their most difficult moments. Even as his career led him into other business ventures, he held tightly to the dream of opening his own funeral home in his hometown.
That dream became reality in 1990 when property became available on Green Street in downtown Parkersburg. After months of planning and hands-on work, Joe and his family opened the first Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in November of that year. The business began as a true family effort—Joe and his wife, Wilma Lambert, were joined by their nephew, Steven L. Tatman, a licensed funeral director. Soon after, Joe’s son H. Brent Lambert and his brother Thomas Lambert also joined the team.
From the beginning, the Lambert and Tatman families built a reputation for compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the people they served. Over the years, the funeral home expanded to multiple locations in Parkersburg, South Parkersburg, and Vienna to better meet the needs of the community.
In the early 2000s, Lambert-Tatman took another important step forward by adding an on-site crematory so families can be assured their loved one never leaves the care of trained, licensed professionals. Today, the cremation center remains one of the most complete and trusted in the region.
More than 30 years after its founding, Lambert-Tatman Funeral Homes & Crematory continues to honor the legacy of its founders, serving families with dignity, compassion, and heartfelt commitment.
