William Arnold Logsdon

William (Bill) Arnold Logsdon, 93, of Parkersburg, W.Va., departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Marietta Hospital.Bill was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Parkersburg, WV.,a. to the late Raymond B. and Freda Louise (Arnold) Logsdon. He married Mary “Lou” Ellen (Hammons) Frye on Oct. 17, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was raised by his Grandfather Arnold.He was a WWII Veteran, enlisting in the Army as William Arnold on December 24, 1936, serving through August 26, 1939. Then he enlisted in the Navy, was appointed Apprentice Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy he completed the US Naval Training School-Diesel at the Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1944. He never left the states during his enlistments but trained marksmen and sharpshooters. This was a perfect fit for him as he said he was “born with a love of guns”.He traveled from West Virginia to California and back to Ohio working as a Machinist. His last job before retiring in 1982 was 28 years at Continental Can Company in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, part of that time as a Supervisor in the Maintenance Machining Dept. He was well known through the Coon Hunting and Field Trials with his dogs. He even shot a bear after retiring and enjoyed hunting deer, squirrel and fishing. He was well known for his storytelling.Bill is survived by a son, Gary of Texas; one brother, Richard Logsdon of Daytona Beach, Fl.; and nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Paul of TX, Eric, Craig, Maureen and Sarah all of California; eight great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren, 21 step great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-great-grandson; also special friends, Kenda Weaver, Jim Conant and Tom & Donna Corbin.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (who died Oct. 25, 1997), and a brother, Ivan “Gene” Logsdon.Per Bill's wishes there will be no memorial service or viewing. Please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Bill's name.Many thanks to Eagle Pointe Nursing Home and to the kind caregivers who took care of Bill during his stay there.
