Vera N. Life, 89 of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 3, 2016 at Worthington Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 28, 1926 in Weirton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Carl E. and Melissa (Siers) Crooks. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Smith (David) of Parkersburg; her son, Sheldon Life (Selena Yearwood) of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Angie Bussey (David) of Parkersburg, and Nathan Smith of Parkersburg; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Bussey of Morgantown, W.Va. and Jacob Bussey of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mildred Matheny and Dean Wright both of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert H. Life; her granddaughter, Scarlett Queen; her great-grandson, Chance W. Bussey; her sister, Caroline Masten; brothers, Carl A. Crooks, Edwin “Buddy” Crooks and an infant brother. Vera was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Weirton, W.Va. and the Sunrise Baptist Church of Parkersburg. She loved to camp and she and Gib were members of the Good Sams Camping Club from 1977 to 1996. She enjoyed her garden and flowers and on Mondays doing laundry on her ringer washer. Every Christmas Vera looked forward to baking cookies with her grandkids and most recently “going to town” on Wednesdays with her daughter and granddaughter. All the time she was gathering “goodies” for boxes to be mailed to Sheldon. She loved her family and Vera, “Mom”, “Nanny” will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Teddy Tackett officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
