Roger Dale Martin, 68, of Washington, WV, passed away on April 11, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born on November 1, 1948 to the late Otis and Eva Lanham Martin in Grantsville, WV. He was a graduate from Parkersburg High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for two years and then came home to marry the love of his life, Sherry Lynn Hupp on June 25, 1971. A union that lasted 45 loving years. Then he joined the Parkersburg Police Department where he dedicated 30 loyal years. Roger was an active member of the FOP Lodge 79 where he served many roles. He also served on the Parkersburg Homecoming Committee and the Parkersburg Fishing Derby Committee. Roger served as a commissioner for the Lubeck Public Service Department until recent months. The love between Roger and Sherry produced three daughters, Wendy (Ray) Kuykendall of Weaverville, NC, Melissa (Eric) Abilmona of Washington, WV, and Susan (Erik) Stoops of Washington, WV. He was blessed to have one grandson, Landon Abilmona and two granddaughters, Kendall Abilmona and Lauren Kuykendall and nephew, G. Ray Martin. He also leaves behind his faithful furry friend, Sammy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Junior Martin, his wife, Sherry Lynn, and his son in-law Erik Stoops. Roger enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, hunting, watching westerns, and taking car rides with his family. Roger will be remembered for his bravery, strength, dependability, and the love he had for his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Lubeck Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
