Janet Marie Cook, 86, of Vienna, WV is now in the arms of the Lord, free from the extended illness she endured here on Earth. She left from WVU Medical Center, Camden Clark on December 20th 2024.
She was a bright and happy spirit who loved to laugh and have fun wherever she was. She could always find something to laugh about and never took life too seriously, but preferred to look on the bright side. She enjoyed going to yard sales, flea markets and auctions until her failing health prevented it. She collected refrigerator magnets, penguin figurines, anything lighthouse and broaches, finding many unusual and antique ones at sales she attended, and displayed them in her home. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society.
Janet was born at home in Vienna and grew up in Vienna, the third child of Harold A and Eva (Brown) Silket on October 17, 1938. Janet married Carl F. Cook on November 10, 1956, and they made their home in South Parkersburg for many years, then moved to Boaz and finally to Vienna. Janet retired from St Joseph's Hospital Central Supply Unit.
She was a member of Mineral Wells Church of Christ, where she enjoyed working in the food pantry ministry and formerly a member of
Camden Ave Church of Christ. She and her husband loved to travel, camp and go on cruises visiting every state except two, Alaska and Hawaii. Also visited Mexico and the Cayman Islands. In years past, they were members of Stardusters Square Dancers.
She is survived by her son, Carl Cook Jr. (Rebecca) of Vienna; daughter, Novenda Kamp (Ron) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Joann Snyder (Harry) of Washington; grandchildren, Karri Williams (Matt) of Cambridge, Rhyan, Kori, and Kira Kamp of Myrtle Beach, Karymn Reese (Matt) of Parkersburg; step-granddaughter, Alicia Ortman (Keith) of Myrtle Beach; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; nieces and nephews, Susan Murray (Larrel) of Elizabeth, Sarah Bibbee (Tim) of Mineral Wells, Everett Silket Jr. (Connie) of Waverly, Michael Silket (Kathy) of Parkersburg, Darlene Flower (Donnie) of Belpre, Kenneth Silket Jr. of Ohio, Richard Silket of Pennsylvania, and Barbara Smith (Craig) of Washington, WV; as well as several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins, too numerous to list.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl; two brothers and their spouses, Kenneth and Eleanor and Everett and Nancy; baby sister, Grace; and long time friend, Ralph Connor.
The funeral will take place 1:00 pm, Friday, December 27, 2024 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna. Visitation will be from 12:00 until time of service. Burial will follow beside her husband at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Janet requested donations be made to the Parkersburg Humane Society.
Lambert-Tatman Vienna is honored to serve the Cook family.
