A Memorial Video to Jim is now available on this site.James W. “Jim” Swearingen, 82 of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Sept. 11, 2014 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born February 20, 1932 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late W.A. “Andy” and Beryl Spurgeon Swearingen. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He received a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy from WVU and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.Jim was co-founder of Fahlgren Advertising in 1962 and served as the Account Executive, Account Supervisor, Media Director, and General Manager of the Parkersburg and Cincinnati offices at time of retirement in 1992. He was Chief Operating Officer of Fahlgren Martin and all operating divisions of the Interpublic Company. He had been director of Commercial Bank-WesBanco Inc. and president of Parkersburg Art Center. He was a member of the Parkersburg Urban Renewal Authority, member and board of directors of the Mid-Ohio Valley Red Cross, and member and board of directors of the Blennerhassett Foundation. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as Treasurer, chairman of the Finance Committee, chairman of the Founder's Trust and was a member of Session. He was a member of the Parkersburg Country Club, Pond Run Investment Club, CASA volunteer since 1996, Camden Clark Hospital Foundation, and was President of the Visiting Committee of the School of Journalism at WVU. He also served on the board and was a former chairman of the United Way.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne Wallace Swearingen; a daughter, Kim Hochendoner (Len) of Vienna; two sons Jay Swearingen (Regina) of Sykesville, MD and Chris Swearingen (Christy) of Memphis, TN; a brother, Andy Swearingen (Laura Jean) of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Audra, Margaux, Rachel, J.L, and Luke; nieces and nephews, Kevin Swearingen, Libby Arnold (Tom), Sally Thomas, and Doug Swearingen (Diane).In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. William Swearingen and wife, Ann; and a nephew, Joe Swearingen.Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg with Rev. Michael R. Seely officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to the Parkersburg Humane Society @ 29th & Poplar Sts.
