James “Jim” Clayton Shreeves, 81, passed away on February 23, 2025 after a short illness at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born July 11, 1943 in Frederick, OK to the late James Harden and Edith Medora (Bond) Shreeves while his dad was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
He graduated from Parkersburg High School (PHS) in 1961, during which time he was a member of PHS and American Legion baseball teams. He also worked at Big Bear Grocery Store. After graduation he received his B.A. degree from WVU-P. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1964, serving for six years as a staff sergeant. Afterwards, he worked for Marbon Chemicals/Borg-Warner/GE Plastics where he retired after 36 years working in color control and several computer departments. Later he helped set in motion the local Coldwater Creek Facility before retiring after 4 years as a biometrics analyst for the Department of Defense.
Jim was a Christian by faith, a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a former member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church. He proudly served on the board of directors for the WV Special Needs Association and Special Olympics WV. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15. In the 1980s he was a member of the River City Runners Club where he enjoyed running and race-walking. He was also a sports enthusiast, cheering for the Yankees, WVU, and our local PHS teams. Jim also enjoyed taking part in athletics and was proud of his accomplishment of completing the Quincy Hill steps over 2,000 times and the U.S. Marine Corps marathon. He was a proud member of his community; he was very charismatic and never met a stranger. He was a devoted family man that was proud of his family and loved spending time with them, especially attending his grandchildren’s numerous activities. His most precious earned title was “Papa”.
In 1996 he married his best friend, Nancy (Slusher) Shreeves who will continue to cherish his memory along with their children, Teri Alford (John) and Johnna Thorn (Jay) of Parkersburg, Jimmy Shreeves (Clare) of Morgantown, and JD Terry (Stacey) of Parkersburg; his brothers and sisters, Linda Shreeves, Joyce Colbert (Don), John Shreeves, and Jay Shreeves (April); thirteen grandchildren, Aaliyah, Judah, and James Shreeves, Lexi, Sierra, and Tristan Alford, Savannah Hill (Tyler), Ross Hughes (Brittany), Johnny and Sammy (Samantha) Terry, and Katelyn, Brady, and Maddie Thorn; three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Layton, and Raylan; and nieces and nephews, Erica Bailey (Brad), Amber Rowe (Phil), Lori Corder (Eric), Michael Boggess (Melba), and Brayden Shreeves.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a special daughter, Susie Diane Shreeves.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St. South Parkersburg with Pastor Kurt Busiek officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Family will accept visitors from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 27 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Special Olympics WV at 3055 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, WV 25526. Condolences may be left online for the family.
