Gary Gene Waggoner, 78, of Vienna, West Virginia, passed away Thursday October 24, 2019 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1941, son of the late George and Virginia Waggoner of Lost Creek, West Virginia. He is survived by his two children, Timothy Waggoner of Dunbar, West Virginia, and Jamie (Jason) Ritenour of Woodbridge, Virginia. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Judith Parrish, of Vienna, West Virginia; his significant other, Dottie Welch of Beverly, Ohio; two grandsons, Aden Ritenour and Aaron Ritenour; and one granddog, Lilly, all of Woodbridge, Virginia. A graduate of Lost Creek High School, Glenville State College, and Marshall University, he began teaching Biology at Parkersburg High School in 1966, and was also the boys’ and girls’ tennis coach, his teams winning multiple West Virginia State High School Championships. He began teaching Biology at Parkersburg Community College, later West Virginia University at Parkersburg, in 1972 where he became the Chairman of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division, and served on the Advisory Council to the West Virginia Higher Education System Board of Trustees, until his retirement in 2011. He also taught Biology and was the tennis coach at Saint Joseph’s Preparatory Seminary from 1974 until its closure. He was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as an usher. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed muzzleloading and black powder firearms. He was a member of the Mountain State Sportsman’s Association. He loved spending time with his family and friends, the beaches of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, salt water fishing, and flying kites. And he especially enjoyed drinking coffee, eating a “well done” biscuit, and solving the world’s problems every morning at Tim Horton’s. A funeral service for Gary will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Pastor Cindy Eakle officiating.The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the services.
