Bob Southall, 77, of Parkersburg, W.Va. went to be with his Heavenly Father Oct. 27, 2011, following a brief illness in Pittsburgh, Pa.He was born Oct. 26, 1934, in Jackson County, W.Va., a son of the late L. Russell and Hazel Thomas Southall.Bob retired after 37 years of service with E.I. DuPont where he had most recently been in Central Lab and Research. Upon retiring in 1992, he became known as the “Bread Man” volunteering his time delivering food to several individuals and organizations. He was active in the American Cancer Society Daffodil Program, something which he had a love for. He also had a love for his Savior and his church, Emmanuel Baptist Church. The church and people were an important part of his life. Bob never knew a stranger and also enjoyed gardening. Also, his passion for life showed through in his love for animals.Surviving is his loving wife, Mary Frances Riggs Southall, whom he married Dec. 1, 1954; two sons, Steven Southall of Walker, W.Va. and Douglas Southall of Parkersburg; four daughters, Julie Bay of Newburg, Pa., Susan (Jackie) Southall-Thornton, Amy Shiflet, and Rebecca Chichester, all of Parkersburg, W.va.; one sister, Doris Ward of Findley, Ohio; three brothers, William “Bill” Southall of Evans, W.Va., Phillip Southall of Ripley, W.Va., and Samuel Southall of Ravenswood, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Misty Ratliff, Melanie O'Brien, Jessica, Samuel, Miranda, and Crystal Southall, Jamie Lewis, Skylar Thornton, Stephanie and Joshua Shiflet, and Scott Southall; and 13 great-grandchildren, Katie, Cheyenne, Colt, Wesley, Rachel, Madison, Kealyn, Collin, Ava, Candice, Olivia, Lillian, and Haley.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Virginia Cochran; one sister, Lois Ferrell; and three infant brothers.Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 23rd Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Dr. Kurt Busick, Pastor David Carpenter, and Rev. Dr. William R. Thomas officiating. Inurnment will follow at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., is assisting the family with arrangements.Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1706 23rd St., Parkersburg, WV 26101 or the American Cancer Society, 3901 Briscoe Road, Parkersburg, WV 26104.
