Bernard Eugene (Gene) Tennant

Bernard Eugene (Gene) Tennant, 91, of Parkersburg passed away November 11, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born August 14, 1927 in Hammond, WV, the son of the late Adrian Russell and Hattie G. Hennen Tennant. In addition to being a Public Accountant by occupation, Gene was a well known businessman and was a previous owner of the Dairy Queen franchise and Waterbed World. He was an Eagle Scout and was a Boy Scout Leader. Gene was active in his community through Vienna Lions Club, coaching Youth Sports, served as Commissioner of Vienna Recreation, the Parkersburg Catholic Athletic Boosters, was the football cameraman and the time trial judge at the Ohio Valley Speedway. Gene was an avid Sunday School Teacher throughout his life. He loved Marshall Thundering Herd football, traveling, playing cards, gardening and various bowling leagues. Gene is survived by his wife, Kathleen I. Tennant; children, Eric W.(Rick) Tennant of Vienna, Doug Tennant of Parkersburg, Stephen E. Tennant of South Carolina, Theresa Davis of Parkersburg, Danny K. Tennant of Parkersburg, Laura Tracewell of Vienna, Krista Bee of Parkersburg, Julie Black of Parkersburg, Craig Tennant of Maryland, Joseph Tennant of Parkersburg, Neysa Angelos of Parkersburg, John Allen of Parkersburg, Eugene Hines of Ohio, James Wood of North Myrtle Beach,SC.; Siblings, Norris Tennant of North Carolina, Danny L. Tennant of Georgia and Viva R. Lightner of Parkersburg ; 38 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Earlene Hillberry Tennant and one son, Phillip Matthew Tennant, one daughter, Terry L Winland and one sister, Reba Ferrebee. Funeral services for Gene will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday November 15, 2018 at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, 3329 Broad St. Parkersburg with Reverend Andrew Tennant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Parkersburg. Visitation will be on Wednesday the 14th. From 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The family would like to especially thank Amedisys Hospice Care and Gene’s private caregivers, Donna Mills, Tori Lowther, T’onna Mills, Laura Bond, and Cindy Kelbaugh. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, The Salvation Army or the organization of your choice.
