Woodrow Edward “Woody” Hicks, 73, of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their support during his final days. Woody was born on August 3, 1952, in Logan, West Virginia, Woody lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and devotion to those he held dear.
Woody married his high school sweetheart Amanda M. (Adkins) Hicks and shared 55 wonderful years with her. Together they built a life centered around love and family. He was a proud father to four children: Angela Schafer (Mark) of Mineral Wells; Susie Martinelli (Chris) of Winchester, Virginia; Alisha Mills (Doug) of Parkersburg; and Andrew Hicks (Abbi) of Portland, Oregon. His legacy continues through his cherished grandsons with who he created a special world through imaginary play and secrets: Jordan Schafer (Paige); Christopher, Adam, and Caleb Martinelli; and Carter and Jackson Mills.
Though Woody had three biological siblings, he found deep connection and camaraderie with his brothers- and sisters-in-law. He was also embraced by a large extended family and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him profoundly.
Woody was baptized in 2010 at Lynn Street Church of Christ—a spiritual milestone that brought him great peace. His favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23, a passage that offered comfort throughout his life and especially during his final days. In those last moments, surrounded by family, Woody laughed freely, reminisced fondly, prayed with conviction, and even took selfies—leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.
A man of simple joys and quiet passions, Woody found happiness in the everyday moments. He loved mowing his lawn with care and precision, watching movies with enthusiasm, and sitting beside Amanda by the fire—content in each other’s company. His love for Duke basketball and March Madness was shared with his son and brought him great joy. Every March, the house would be filled with yells of “DUUUUUUUKE”. The sound of bagpipes stirred something deep within him; music was one of many ways he connected to the world around him.
Woody appreciated the beauty in life’s small details, the changing seasons, the gentle rhythm of a soft rain—and he never turned down a lemon donut. He enjoyed working on home projects and generously shared his DIY knowledge with others. Whether offering advice or lending a hand, he found joy in helping those around him.
A private cremation has been arranged by Lambert Tatman Funeral Home in South Parkersburg. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Though he has departed this world, Woody leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, laughter, faith, and family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, is honored to serve the Hicks family.
