Wilma Lee (Burkhammer) Springston, 87, of Vienna, passed away on August 7, 2025 after a brave battle with cancer.

She was a graduate of Weston High School. She worked for Canteen Corp., servicing the cafeteria in Corning Glass until her retirement in 1998.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Don Springston. She is survived by her son John Springston (Cheri) of Vienna, son Gary Springston (Tammy) of Chattanooga, TN and daughter Susan Pierce (John) of High Point, NC. Wilma was “Gammy” to her grandchildren Jayne Pierce, Lynzee Springston, Tara Lambert (Chase) and Jesse Springston.

Wilma was born in Weston, the daughter of the late William and Dona (Cutright) Burkhammer. She was the ninth of ten children. She was proceded in death by her sisters Zona Timms, Elsa Queen, Verda Beachler, Roberta Springston, Betty Dean, Helen Zempel and brother Arnett Burkhammer. She is survived by her sister JoAnn Burkhammer of Parkersburg, formerly of Weston, brother Carl Burkhammer of Weston, sister-in-law Carol Lang and many nieces and nephews.

A member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Wilma cherished her faith in God and the church family she had made there.

Wilma had many friends over the years, two of which were Mae Combs and Reta Goedeck. She called those two her “Vienna sisters” as they spent much time in each other’s company.

Wilma was a member of the Sandhill CEO’s and participated in their fund-raising activities, especially the fall Creative Camp where she taught classes and shared her many skills and talents.

Philanthropy was important to Wilma. She participated in the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, donated to the Old Man Rivers Mission Elementary School Backpack program and donated to the Good Samaritan Center Food Pantry in Vienna.

There will be no service.

Donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Center Food Pantry at Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna.
