Courtney, 88, of Belpre, Ohio passed away December 8, 2014 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.He was born October 17, 1926 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the lateWalter and Lillian Tefft Courtney.He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. William was the owner of Industrial Grinding Service from 1960 to 1996. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.He is survived by daughters, Carol L. Alkire and husband, Wayne of Little Hocking, Ohio, and Susan M. Courtney of Belpre; grandchildren, Jennifer Courtney Alkire and fiancé Don Miller of Belpre, C.W. Alkire, Jr. and wife, Dee of Mentor, Ohio; one step great-grandson, Doug Guns of Virginia; and daughter-in-law, Maryanne Courtney.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Virgia A. Courtney; a son William W. Courtney, Jr.; a sister, Zelma Wilson; and brothers, Charles, Carl, and James Courtney.Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio, with Reverend David Hubbard presiding. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Marietta American Legion Post 64. Burial will follow at Fairview Memory Gardens in Belpre. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 302 Maple Street, Belpre, Ohio.
