William D. Lieving, 89, of Parkersburg, passed away January 8, 2018 at Belpre Landing. He was born July 17, 1928 in Parkersburg, WV. The son of the late Dale E. and Melanie Kernan Lieving. William graduated from PHS in 1946 where he was a member of the Big Red Band. He joined the Marines and served at Paris Island from 1946 to 1948. He played trombone in the Marine Corps Band and in the original Doug Hess Band. He graduated from Marietta College in 1952 and in 1975 received his Masters degree from Marshall University. He was a retired Administrator with the WV. Dept. of Education. William was a member of the Masons #129 Williamstown, the American Legion Post #15 Parkersburg and Order of the Eastern Star #39 of Williamstown. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Wince) Lieving; one son, David H Lieving of Charleston, WV; three step children, Paul Foster of Belpre, Ohio, Thomas Foster (Kathy) and Susan Law (Butch) both of Harrisville, WV; several step- grandchildren; two nephews, Doug and Rob Ward. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta (Bobbie) Hadley Lieving, and one sister, Betty Ward. In honor of William's wishes he will be cremated and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to the Humane Society of Parkersburg. A very special “Thank You” to Dr. Nik Shah and his staff for the 21 years of treatment for his Non-Hodkins Lymphoma and to Kassie and Phil at Belpre Landing Nursing Home and to Arva and Lindsay of CHS Hospice and especially Pastor Rick.
