Another World War II veteran is gone. Surrounded by his family, William “Bill” Hall, Jr., 91, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away peacefully, on January 12, 2016 at Worthington Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 27, 1924, in Spencer, W.Va., Bill Jr. was the son of the late W.R. “Bill” Hall and the late Irene Marie Nichols Hall. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy, earning a purple heart for injuries sustained when his ship, the USS Honolulu came under attack in the Pacific. He worked a variety of mechanic, construction and truck driving jobs during his lifetime with his last being, delivery driver for Young's Market in Marietta, OH before retiring in 1976. Bill is survived by his children, Shirley (Mike) Murray of Lancaster, OH, Rose (Hayward) Wamsley of Parkersburg, David (Pam) Hall of Carroll, OH and Brenda (Jeff) Everett of Williamstown, W.Va.; as well as step-children, Charlotte (Randy) Modesitt and Chuck Posey, whom he loved as his own; grandchildren, Teresa (Terry) Smith, Tina (Mark) Moore, Eric (Amanda) Seckman, Jayme (Mike) Kincaid, Kristen Seckman, and Michelle (Casey) Dawson; great-grandchildren, Scott (Rebecca) Smith, Kati (Bryce Sanborn) Moore, Jonathan Hall, Kylee Hall, Sophie Seckman and Jacob Fluharty; great great-grandson, Austin Smith; and Bill's first wife, Ethel Kelly, who remained a dear friend throughout his lifetime. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Hall; one brother, Chester Hall; one stepson, Christopher Posey; and one grandson, Christopher Hall. A celebration of Bill's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Rev. J. David Easter officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to time of services Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedysis Hospice and the staff of Worthington Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center, West Hall, for the excellent care they gave Bill during the final chapter of his life.
