William Duane Griffin

William “Bill” Griffin, 89, has passed into the presence of Jesus, our Savior, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was born March 5, 1936 in Williamstown, a son of the late Charles W. Griffin and Margaret McClelland Griffin.

He grew up in DuBois, PA with his mother and step-father, Wendell Hunter, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Master’s Degree in Engineering Science. His engineering and computer business accounting profession took him from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, to California, back to Pennsylvania, and finally back to his birthplace in Williamstown, where he then retired.

Bill is survived by his three sons, Robert David and William Duane, Jr of California, and Brian Douglas of Colorado, whose mother was the beloved Nancy Allshouse Griffin. He also was step-father to the children of his cherished wife, Charlotte Newlon Griffin, Cherrie Cumpston of Walker and Craig Kerr of Wheeling. Also surviving are his brother, Gordon Griffin, of California, and sister, Gretchen Griffin Hofmann, of North Carolina, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill’s older brother, Bob, passed away in 2006.

He was a devoted member of the Boaz Baptist Church for nearly 40 years, along with his wife who passed away in 2020. He served as treasurer and deacon during this time as well as handyman and golf partner of Pastor Bob and other members of his church family.

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life and faith will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Pastor Bob Alfred officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. Family will accept visitors from 5 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 15 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Boaz Baptist Church, P.O. Box 138, Williamstown, WV 26187.

Bill’s family is thanking God for the care of their loved one by Pastor Bob Alfred and his wife, Candy.
