William Thomas Gotschall

William Thomas “Bill” Gotschall 77 of Belpre, Ohio, passed away May 28, 2014 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph's Campus.He was born December 4, 1936 in Carrollton, Ohio to George W. and Nellie McConahy Gotschall.He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wren as a radarman second class. He was honorably discharged in 1957.He attended Ohio University for two years then graduated from California State College, Long Beach in 1964 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.He was regional training manager for seven western states with Montgomery Ward and was self employed for many years.Bill is survived by his wife, Marty, of the home, they shared life for 33 years. Also surviving are his son, Michael (Tandy) Gotschall; and two daughters, Debbie Lopez and Susan Gotschell; four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter all of Stockton, CA; his sister, Betty (Dan) Davis of Hemet, CA; one brother, Jerry (Judy) Gotschall of Poway, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Sally Kennady.He was a member of the Palmetto, Florida Moose Lodge and was a 48 year member of the St. Charlie's Angels Committee of Downieville, Chapter #1849 of E Clampus Vitus.He and Marty lived on a farm on the Muskingum River in Morgan County, Ohio for 23 years before moving to Belpre in 2005.Bill was an accomplished woodworker and built many pieces of furniture. He also restored classic cars. He was an avid boater and was preparing their boat for the summer season when he suffered a stroke, which caused him to fall from the ladder.Bill was a very wise man, with a great sense of humor and a sharp wit, which made him well loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed and well remembered.Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio with Jim Lynch officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Bill.
