Walter Paden Swearingen, of Parkersburg, passed away June 5, 2016 at his granddaughters residence in Belpre, Ohio. He was born March 22, 1925, in Walker, WV, a son of the late Karl and Elizabeth Heck Swearingen. Walter was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. He had worked at The American Viscoe Co., was retired from the WV State Liquor store as a manager and had worked for over ten years for John Bosley Equipment Co. Walter enjoyed playing pool, listening to bluegrass music, was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1212 and had been a Parkersburg City Councilman in the early 1970's and was a Methodist by faith. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth G. Sayre Swearingen; three daughters, Kathryn Smiri of Parkersburg, Rita Swearingen of Parkersburg and Vicky Staats (Doug) of Leachtown, WV; eight grandchildren, Devena Moore (Jay), Kelly Gordon (William), Amanda Lockhart (Ron), Duston Wilson (Amber), Scott Staats, Kyle Staats, Kendra Wilson (Jeremy) and Soumia Smiri; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Gordon, Cayla Moore, Josh Moore, Hannah Moore, Alexis Gordon, Carter Lockhart, Alexis Staats and Stella Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Dale and Charles Swearingen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. On Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike St. South Parkersburg with Pastor Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery with full military rites by AM. Legion Post #15. Visitation for family will be 4pm. and public visitation will be from 5 -8 pm. On Wednesday at the funeral home.
