Walter Joseph Sneigle, of Vienna, passed away on January 22, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an extended illness.He was 90.He was born in Glendale, West Virginia on February 18, 1920.He was the son of the late Harry and Josephine Wujcik Sneigle.He spent most of his working years at Johns-Mansville before retiring in 1980.He was most proud of the four and a half years that he spent in the U.S. Army during World War II, 18 months of which he was stationed on the Aleutian Islands.Walter loved to fish, and he was an avid sports fan.He was a beloved father and grandfather.In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 62 years, Edna Sneigle.He is survived by his four children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.His two daughters are Rebecca (Philip) Straw of Ellicott City, Maryland and Frances (Thomas) Spainhour of Hudson, Wisconsin.His two sons are Michael (Natalie) Sneigle of Parkersburg and Harry Sneigle of Kenosha, Wisconsin.Walter was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Vienna.Viewing will take place at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home at 3005 Grand Central Avenue in Vienna on Saturday, January 29, from 2:30-4:00.There will be a family funeral service from 2:00-2:30, officiated by Father Stephen Joseph, prior to the public viewing.A private burial will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery following the viewing.A memorial mass will be offered at St. Michael's on Sunday, January 30, at 11:30, to celebrate the life of Walter Sneigle.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 55th St. and Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, in lieu of flowers.
