It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter "Butch" Wayne Shepard, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on April 21st, 1956, in Parkersburg, WV, Walter remained a lifelong resident of his cherished hometown.
Butch was a proud graduate of Parkersburg South High School. Following his education, he dedicated his life to working as a truck driver for Evergreen Transportation. After many years of loyal service, Butch retired.
A proud Marine, Butch served his country with honor and distinction. His service instilled in him values that he carried throughout his life, evident in his dedication to his family and friends.
Butch had a passion for fishing, a hobby he enjoyed in the company of friends and family.
He is survived by his four sons, Joshua W. Shepard, Aaron Shepard, Justin Shepard, and Kyle Shepard, who were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Sherry Slusser and Kathy Shea, who will forever cherish the bond they shared. His legacy lives on through his adored grandchildren—Jeff, Landon, Kennedy, Caden, Isaiah, Hannah, and Bella—who were each a source of immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alberta M. Roach Shepard, his father Harold W. Shepard, his mother Betty E. Parsons, and his grandson Matthew.
A memorial service will be held on September 2, 2026, at 12 PM at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg.
Butch's strength and kindness touched all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
