Walter “Sam” Atkinson age 88, of Belpre, was born March 18, 1930 and passed away at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018 at his residence. Sam was a 1948 graduate of Belpre High School, was a United States Navy Veteran having served from 1948 to 1952, where he was an airplane mechanic, and was retired from G.E. Plastics Washington Plant. He loved fishing and sports and enjoyed playing poker and recycling cans. Sam is survived by one son, Michael “Mike” and Beth (Milhoan) Atkinson of Belpre; one daughter, Teresa “Terry” and Paul Bartlett of Belpre; four grandchildren, Tony and Jessica William of Lubeck, Brandon Burnfield of Belpre, Justin Bartlett of Clarksville, TN, and Shaun Bartlett of Belpre; great-grandchildren, Steven, Cody, and Charles Williams and Blair, Cooper, and Dylan Burnfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Louise Rowan Atkinson; one daughter, Pamela Kay Atkinson; and two sisters, Virginia Burd of Little Hocking and Dorothy Carpenter of Indiana. The family would like to thank Hospice for all their help and kindness. The family is having a private ceremony at the Torch Cemetery at a later date. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Belpre is assisting the family with cremation.
