W. Leon Knopp

W. Leon Knopp, 83, of Mineral Wells, was called home and welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Leon was born on October 6, 1942, in Roane County, to the late Richard (Jim) and Laurada Parsons Knopp. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a proud veteran of the United States Army, and ran a successful business, Leon’s Refrigeration, until retirement.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being in the mountains, fishing and hunting, going to auctions, gardening, woodworking, bird watching, and telling stories. He was a long-time member of Chesterville Church. He was always there to lend a helping hand, putting the needs of others before his own. Most importantly, Leon was a strong Christian man who loved to witness and share his faith to everyone he could in hopes that they would open their heart to Jesus and receive the gift of salvation. His family takes great comfort in knowing that when he left his earthly body, he was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven with Jesus proclaiming, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Judy Perkins Knopp; children, Jeanette Zaiser, Wonda Hershman (Mike), Vonda Knopp (Tim Hayes), Leon Knopp (Cindy), April Sams (Mark), Ben Knopp (Angie), and Floyd Keener; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Danny Knopp (Judy), sister, Paula Righter (Jim), and sisters-in-law, Cherie Knopp and Val Knopp.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Gary (sister-in-law Jackie), Gene, Lionel, and Terry Knopp.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. James Spychalski for his years of compassionate care.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg with Pastor Dave Cumpston officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Roane County.
