Virginia Leona (Pigott) Cottrill, 102, of Parkersburg, was called home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2026. She was born in Akron, OH., June 26, 1924, a daughter of the late Ruby (Thomas) Pigott and Amos Pigott.
Virginia was employed with Montgomery Ward for twenty years. She became a baptized member and was a youth leader at The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints in 1950, now known as The Restoration Church of Christ. She was a brownie and girl scout leader, was an armchair writer of children stories, and wrote religious poems. Virginia enjoyed sewing, cooking, and working in her yard. Many will also remember her quilt making, and her annual Halloween popcorn balls, which she continued for 60 years.
She married in 1940, to William F. Cottrill Sr. and they shared 71 wonderful years together until his passing. Virginia kept her family close, and everyone was welcome in her home. She would say, "her home was her castle, be it ever so humble." She is survived by her six children, Glenn (Helen) Cottrill of Washington, WV., David (Bonnie) Cottrill of Auburndale, FL., Carol Tracewell of Washington, WV., Linda (Gene) Stribling of Washington, WV., Diana (Tom) Allman of Cedar Grove, WV., and William Jr. (Karen) Cottrill of Davisville, WV. She has nineteen grandchildren, and six generations of great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Wilma Pigott (Smith) and Arnold Pigott; two grandchildren, son-in-law, James Tracewell, and many other relatives and close friends.
Virginia had nothing but kindness to share. With her contagious enthusiasm for life and wiliness to encourage others, she was a natural born leader. She valued her faith in God, and she lived a clean life being medication, tobacco, and alcohol free; all in which she believed is what got her to such longevity. Celebrating 100 years on the Smucker’s jelly jar was a goal for her.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg. Elders Glenn E. Cottrill and Jacob Cottrill will be officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Virginia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
