Mrs. Velda Jean (Bradley) Jones Mrs. Velda Jones, Parkersburg, WV and resident of Ohio Valley Health Care, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018. Velda was born to Roy and Myrtle Bradley, on May 20, 1928 Mrs. Jones was a member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, where she formerly held positions of Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and Church Treasurer. She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Gideons International. Mrs. Jones held employment with the Masonic Home, Dils Brothers and Criss Concrete, as payroll secretary. Velda enjoyed her time while in OVHC where she met many friends and their families. An avid reader, she loved books and enjoyed her life to the fullest, even after losing a leg to Peripheral artery disease. As a resident, she attended many activities such as music concerts of all types, shopping excursions and fishing trips which were provided by OVHC. The former Miss Bradley married H. Gene Jones, of the home, who survives. The late Rev. Rossing Smith united Gene and Velda in marriage on August 19, 1951. Together they reared their two daughters, who survive, in a Christian Home. Becky Martin, Ellenboro, WV. and Andrea ( Alan) Sinnett, Williamstown, WV, and former son-in-law, Jeff Martin, Waverly, WV. Velda loved her grandchildren, who also survive, Nick (Sarah) Martin, East Sparta, Oh, Mariah Martin (Andy Church), Parkersburg, WV, Phil Sinnett, Williamstown, WV and Andrew Sinnett, Elk Grove Village, IL. Velda was especially proud of her twin great-granddaughters, Sadie and Abby Martin of East Sparta, OH. Mrs. Jones had many nieces and nephews whom she loved and held closely in her heart. In addition to her parents, Velda is preceded in death by her sister, Helen Wolverton; brother-in-law, R. Clyde Wolverton; brothers,-in-law, Wayne Jones and Gayle Jones, sisters-in-law, Joy Jones and Jessie Jones; a niece, Jennifer Jones McElwee; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and John Jones. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 26, 2018 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg, with Reverend Beth Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 168 Old Turnpike Road, Parkersburg, Fellowship Hall for a meal, immediately following the grave-side service. The family extends a special thank you to Mike Miller and the staff at OHVC for their loving care and concern for Velda and her family over the past years.
