Tate Mason Hudson

Tate Mason Brewster Hudson, 86, of Lewisburg, WV passed away June 16, 2019 at Milestone Senior Living. She was born May 16, 1933, in Laurel, MS daughter of the late Walter (Boz) and Charlotte Biggs Brewster. Tate had a Ph.D. in Secondary Education from the University of Akron and a BA and MA in English and Teaching from the College of Wooster. Tate also graduated from the Greenbrier College for Women. Tate enjoyed learning and teaching, throughout her life. She taught English in middle school and high school in Wooster, Ohio, presented new teaching methods at English Teacher conventions and during retirement presented a traveling educational program on Thomas Jefferson to local schools in West Virginia. Tate and her husband traveled the world, with interest in historical sites, cultures and nature. She was an avid reader, bridge player and volunteer. She was the WV State President and Registrar of the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, a member of the Mayflower Society, Phi Delta Kappa and Rotary Club. She had been an Elder and Clerk at the First Presbyterian Church in Wooster, Ohio and also at Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Tate loved her family, her friends and her students. Tate is preceded in death by parents Charlotte and Walter Brewster, husband Samuel Hudson II and granddaughter, Jennifer Hudson. She is survived by her children; Walter Hudson, Samuel Hudson III (Cynthia), Laura Warren (Terry) and William Hudson (Cindy) along with grandchildren; Natalie Warren (Dan Patterson), Caroline Meyer (Anthony), Samuel Hudson IV, Claire Hudson, Catherine Hudson, Michael Hudson and Daniel Hudson; and great grandchildren; Harper Patterson and Madison Meyer. A celebration of life for both Sam and Tate Hudson will be Labor Day weekend, 2 p.m. on 8/31/2019 at Old Stone Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
