Date and Time of Service: Privateposted 10/6/2010 at 5:12:22 PMCarol Susanne “Sue” Sams, 74, of Belpre, Ohio, passed away on October 5, 2010, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.She was born October 31, 1935 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Frank McKinley and Sarah Anna Cunningham Leach.Sue grew up attending the Lauchport Methodist Church where she played the piano. Her mother had been a charter member. She graduated from Parkersburg High School, playing piano in the high school orchestra and being a student assistant. She attended her first Republican Day Dinner when she was twelve and remained politically active for many years. She was a graduate of Glenville State College and attended night school at Marietta College. After two years in the laboratory at St. Joseph's and Camden-Clark Memorial Hospitals, she became an ASCP Medical Technologist. After passing the HEW Registry, she was nationally registered to teach. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Georgia, St. Joseph's Hospital and at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for a number of years as Chief of Chemistry. She retired after many years in the clinical laboratory of General Consultants, formerly located at 1217 Ann Street, her childhood home.Sue was an early member of the Parkersburg Choral Society, and a Campaign Chairman for the Parkersburg Community Concert Association. She was an avid birdwatcher.She is survived by a son, Scott Richard Sams, of Belpre; a daughter, Briana Susanne Sams, of Belpre; a grandson, Nicholas Scott Sams, her pride and joy; a sister, Sara Frances Little (David) of Parkersburg; nephews, John D. Little (Kathy) and Michael McKinley Little; and a very special niece, Becky Clemmens, of West Palm Beach, Fla. She maintained contact with a very special friend, Gerry Amos Kaufman, and a group of friends from GSC. She felt truly grateful to have been blessed by such a wonderful life.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Patty Jocelyn Leach in 1932 and Lois Virginia Leach, at birth in the early 1930's; and her brother, Donald Robert Leach, in 2009.At her request, she will be cremated. Her cremains will be interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre.She asks that anyone wanting to commemorate her, do a kindness for someone and encourage youngsters to always do their very best.
