Sue Elaine Marshall

January 27, 1945 — July 17, 2024

Sue Elaine Eddy Marshall of Vienna was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on January 27, 1945. Sue was the only daughter of the late Hattie Mae Shingleton Eddy and the late Clifford Wayne Eddy of St. Marys. She grew up in St. Marys where she spent all her days as a juvenile. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, John Wayne Eddy. She married Robert “Bob” Marshall in May, 1967 whom she met as a student while attending Glenville State University. These two college “love birds” were blessed to spend 57 wonderful years together.

She is survived by her husband and one son Robert “Bobby” Marshall II (Tara Beth) of Vienna, grandsons Robert “Rob” Marshall III and Tanner Blaine Marshall.

Sue was a proud graduate of both St. Marys High School (1962) and Glenville State University (1966). She was a music major in college with an emphasis on voice. She was a band member in both high school and college and she sang in choirs at both schools. In high school she had the honor of singing at the very top of the Christmas tree, an annual tradition in St. Marys. She was honored to be a majorette in the high school band for two years. She was proud to be a member of the St. Marys band that traveled to Washington, D.C. and sang for the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. In college she was lead vocalist in the Vandalia Singers a college group, well known at the time, throughout West Virginia. The group of singers performed multiple times for two West Virginia governors. Her Senior voice recital was deemed a huge success and drew her an invitation to try out the Metropolitan Opera. In her senior year in college she was elected as a member of the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. For several years she sang with the Parkersburg Choral Society performing numerous solo’s in their performances.

Sue taught 12 years for the Wood County Board of Education as an elementary music teacher. In her years of teaching she worked at both Jefferson elementary and Emerson elementary schools. She conducted choirs at not only these two elementary schools but at multiple schools in Wood County. One of her gifts was developing the musical talents of her students.

One of God’s gifts to Sue was a clear and inspiring singing voice which gave cause for her singing for numerous weddings. For many years she traveled to numerous states and various locations singing in church weddings for both friends and relatives.

Sue was a devout Christian her entire life. She was a member of and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Vienna where she , not surprisingly, sang in the church choir. She both started and directed the Kononia a successful youth choir at the church for several years.

She loved her grandsons and was blessed to get to watch them grow and develop into great young men. Even though she might occasionally growl at them she dearly loved spending time with them and listening to their ventures in life. She will be sorely missed by her wonderful grandsons.

Sue was blessed with a love of animals and always was found to have both dogs and cats in her home. She particularly loved her dogs throughout the years and consequently had numerous four legged friends. Her most recent love was “Roscoe” an 80 pound German Sheppard mix. “Roscoe” will have to finish his path, alone without his best friend!
