Steven L. Hemmelgarn, 75, of Parkersburg, WV., passed away on August 24, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dayton, OH., the oldest son of the late Cyril and Romana Hemmelgarn.
He grew up in Worthington, OH and graduated from Bishop Watterson High School and Ohio State University with a degree in sports journalism. He worked for Parkersburg News and Sentinel for over four decades. He loved his job, traveling, sports, and especially going to Ohio State football games.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Stacy Hemmelgarn (Curtis Fought); five grandsons; two great-grandsons; and two sisters, Susan Wintering (James) and Doris Mercer (Tim). He is also loved by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jenny Miller Hemmelgarn; and one brother, David Hemmelgarn.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg with Pastor Don Yeager officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
