Sheldon Gary Deem, 71, of Belpre, passed away on January 12, 2019, surrounded by his children. He was born on December 17, 1947 to parents Darrell and Georgia (nee: Phillips) Deem. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1966. He went on to attain his welding certification and was hired by Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio. He retired from Ford after 28 years and moved to Belpre, Ohio. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed cars, collecting antiques and construction projects. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He is survived by his three children, James Gary Deem of Lorain, Ohio, Nikol Timmons (Otwell “Tim”) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Cheryl Casto of Lorain, Ohio, brothers Barton (Lori) Deem of Newport, Ohio, Steven Deem of Clarksburg, West Virginia, sister Barbara Payton of Springfield, West Virginia, and four grandchildren Christopher Timmons, Claire Timmons, Luke Casto and Jonah Deem as well as his former spouse, Ann Chutes (nee: Haslacker), his beloved dog, Little Man, and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother- in-law, Wayne Payton. A special thank you to the caregivers at Mercy Health New Life Hospice Center and Mercy Hospital in Lorain, Ohio for their compassion and support during his final days. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 18, 2019 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd., Belpre Ohio. Burial will follow in the Deem Cemetery at Beatrice, WV. His family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home of Belpre is assisting the Deem family.
