Ruth Evelyn Carder of Belpre, Ohio passed away on June 23, 2026 at Belpre Landing, in Belpre, OH.
Ruth was born on March 22nd, 1931, Ritchie County, W.V., the daughter of Goldie Esther Smith Jones and George Claude Jones. Ruth graduated from Harrisville (WV) High School with the class of 1949 and received her piano pedagogy training from The New School of Music, Princeton, N.J. She was certified as a teacher of piano by the Music Teachers National Association, the West Virginia Music Teachers Association, and the American College of Musicians. She served as adjudicator for the WVMTA and ACM. She was local chairman for the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
A gifted musician and teacher, Ruth inspired hundreds of students during her teaching career. She also gave of musicianship in church music playing both piano and organ, and Ruth was the pianist for the Billy Graham Crusade held in Parkersburg in 1961. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and also attended The Rock in Parkersburg, WV. She was a member of Belpre Chapter #541 Order of Eastern Star.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Donald Ellsworth Carder; both parents; brothers, Leon James Jones and David Earl Jones and her precious canine companions Dusty and Casey Anne.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Donna Jean Moore (Mark), Shelbyville, KY, and Susan Lea Steed (Gary), Washington, WV.; grandsons Mark Kinchelo Moore, II (Jennifer) and Jonathan Ellsworth Moore (Dayna) all of Louisville, KY, and Granddaughter Lauren Nicole Steed, Washington, WV. Great-Grandchildren: Emma Moore, Hudson Moore, Camden Moore; and Layla Moore all of Louisville, KY as well as Sister-in-law Nancy Jones, Nephew Brian Edward Jones of Parkersburg, WV and niece Kimberly Renee Jones Cox (Seth) in OH.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street in Parkersburg, with David Carpenter and Mark Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Parkersburg, WV. Friends may visit on Wednesday, July 1 from 6-8 PM.
