On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, Ruth Elaine Bennett, 92, of Marietta, OH, formerly of Vienna, passed away peacefully at The Arbors of Marietta. She was born February 5, 1926, the oldest daughter of the late Merle E. Knick Bennett and Jessie G. Bennett, both of Vienna. She was the second oldest of ten children. Ruth was a 1944 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She worked for DuPont at Washington Works and Wilmington, Delaware for almost 40 years, retiring in 1987. She was very active in sports, especially bowling. She served as a past president of the WV Women’s Bowling Association and is a member of the Parkersburg US Bowling Congress Hall of Fame. Everyone that knew Ruth knew she was a die-hard WVU Mountaineer fan. Every time a WVU football or basketball game was being played, whether on television or radio, Ruth would be enthusiastically cheering the team on. Ruth is survived by three sisters, Laura McDougle (Stuart), Shirley Cottrill and Lynda McDonald (Frank); sister in-law, Charlotte Bennett and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her older brother, Ovid (Tug) Bennett; her younger brothers, James (Jim) Bennett and Jerry Bennett; her younger sisters, Pat Carpenter, Mary Nern (Gordon) and Diane Cremeans (Bill); and brother in-law, James Cottrill. The family would like to thank all of the staff at The Arbors of Marietta and the Amedisys Hospice of Marietta for their kindness and support. Per Ruth’s wishes, there will be no funeral or graveside services. Arrangements are being handled by Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and she will be interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. “Hail, West Virginia!” Aunt Ruth.
