Ruel Ray Davis (84) of Washington, W.Va. entered Heaven's gates with praise and thanksgiving, passing away unexpectedly, November 23, 2016 at his home. Born in 1932, Ruel was a lifelong resident of Wood County and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1950. A proud ex-Marine, Ruel served in that branch of the nation's military during the Korean Conflict. Returning to civilian life, he retired from DuPont's Washington Works with 30 years of service. Ruel was a Christian and an active member in the American Baptist affiliation churches, being ordained by the organization as a deacon and serving many years as an active deacon with the South Parkersburg Baptist Church and the Bethel Baptist Church. An avid sports fan, he particularly enjoyed auto racing, an activity he engaged in during the 1950's where he was a driver, car owner and later served in track staff capacities. He was a long time member of the Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge of Parkersburg where he coached several new applicants through the chairs. Ruel was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eldred Regina (Morgan) Davis; his parents, Thomas & Orlie Davis; and a brother, Lewis. He is survived by two sons, Steve (Becky) and Stuart (Robin) Davis; five grandchildren, (Joshua, Staci, Matthew, Morgan and Carly); a pair of great grand-daughters, (Delaney and Eversyn); a sister, Bernice Whitener; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Interment will follow at the Merrell's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
