Robert Lee Peters, 85, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic. Born on October 31, 1928, he was the eldest son of the late Horace C. and Elizabeth Jane Lemon Peters.

Robert honorably served in the United States Army/Air Force and dedicated himself to hard work throughout his life. He began his career at the young age of 15 with Matheny Motor and ultimately retired as branch manager for C.I. Walker Machinery Company. His commitment to the community was also evident through his involvement in the Chamber of Commerce Highway and Traffic Committee.

A lifelong learner, Robert graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1946, attended the General Motors Institute, and earned a Regents degree in business. He had a passion for golf, being a longstanding member of the South Hills Golf Course. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, watching professional football, and the show "Blue Bloods."

Above all, he was a faithful member of the Lord's church, and was dedicated to God, His word, and His will.

Rob is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jean Atkinson Peters, whom he married on July 12, 1952; three daughters, Teresa (Larry) Johnson, Cynthia (Ron) Fleak, and Angela (Jeff) Fluharty, all of Parkersburg; and one son, Robert (Debbie) Peters of Washington. He held a special bond with his nephew, Mark (Loretta) Peters of Waverly, who was like a son to him. Additionally, he is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth A. McCardle of Mobile, Alabama, Susan J. Hennessey of Harahan, Louisiana, and Mary C. Stoneking of Walker, West Virginia; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard E. Peters.
