It's with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, Robert “Bob” Eugene Mongell, due to complications from a fall in August 2014. Bob was born on November 21, 1939 in Connellsville, Pa, the son of the late Eleanor “Matt” Stillwagon Mongell and Albert Mongell. Bob spent his early years in Connellsville and graduated from Connellsville High School in 1957. Bob grew up helping his mother and grandmother on the family farm. Bob played in many sports while growing up but his love of cars soon took over. He went to work for Thorofare Markets in Connellsville when he was 16 yrs old. His paycheck back then was usually spent on something to make his car run faster. He and his friends, back in those days, would spend lots of “late night weekends” street racing. Gloria was often a spectator at some of these races. Bob and Gloria Mardis Mongell were married on January 8th 1962. Terri and Kelli joined their family over the next couple of years. In 1967, Thorofare Markets offered Bob a management position in Parkersburg. He moved his family to Vienna, W.Va., and later on to Belpre, Ohio, his final place of residence. He managed the Emerson Avenue Pennyfare until 1980. Bob then went to work for Dick Warner Pontiac and worked there for over 20 years in various positions. At the time of his accident Bob was employed by the city of Parkersburg at the Memorial Bridge, plus he would sometimes drive cars to and from auctions for Warner's or Astorg's. Bob enjoyed playing golf and all the golf trips with his “golfing buddies”. He especially loved playing in the World Am Tournaments in Myrtle Beach, SC. In the mid 80's Bob decided to try his hand at “legal” drag racing and bought and rebuilt a 1968 Camaro. He and Gloria loved going racing on the weekends to race tracks in WV, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and even Bristol, TN. He made many “racing friends” during those years. He eventually decided to sell the race car and buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Bob and Gloria enjoyed the scenic rides and spending time with their Harley friends. Bob and Gloria loved traveling. They took many trips with the girls to Myrtle Beach while they were growing up. They especially enjoyed the several Caribbean cruises and trips to Key West, Pigeon Forge, & Charleston, SC. Bob made many dear friends over the years that meant so much to him. They knew if they needed help in any way, he was only a phone call away. He enjoyed working with the guys at the Toll Bridge and seeing his many friends pass through the toll booth. We must mention his love for cars and all his Car Dealership connections around town. He dearly loved those “CAR guys”. He never forgot his “Pennyfare” friends either and still kept in close touch with many of the employees. His “Hill House” family also meant so much to him and he treasured those friendships. So often he would come home from work, playing golf or just running around town and say to Gloria, “I had so much fun today”. We would like to thank the “Health Care” employees at CCMH, CAMC and Rock Springs Rehab in Pomeroy, OH for the special care, attention and love they showed Bob and our family during the last nine months. We would also like to thank our family and friends for all the support and contributions towards Bob's benefits held in October. Thanks to everyone, both benefits were a huge success, and provided so much assistance to our family. Bob's family and friends knew they could count on him whenever needed. Bob would fix it himself, or find someone that could. Bob enjoyed buying his girls their first cars and then his grandchildren's first cars. He would hunt all over town for the perfect one and loved surprising them. Our hearts are so heavy with the incredible loss of our dear Bob. He will be forever missed and never forgotten. In memory of Bob, we ask that you have lots of days where you can come home and say, “I had so much fun today!!” Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Mardis Mongell; his daughters, Terri Paugh (Rusty) and Kelli Mongell; his grandchildren, Brandi Wolf (Dru), Bradley Paugh (Ashton) and Brett Paugh; his great-grandchildren, Ila Mae and Sylvia June Wolfe, Kristopher Lee and Katleyn Jean Paugh; and sisters-in-law, Patty (Ron) Haun and Nancy Swope. Even though our hearts are so heavy with the loss of Bob, we are blessed to have had him for 75 years. We also know Bob will be reunited with his beloved grandson, Brian Christopher Mongell. Bob and Brian shared a very special bond and we are thankful they will be together again, and having lots of “fun” days. Funeral services for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Belpre Church of Christ with Pastor Jamie Sprague officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery of Belpre. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Belpre and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department.
