Richard "Shot" A. Hurst

Richard "Shot" A. Hurst, 89, of Parkersburg, WV passed away September 15, 2026, at Camden Clark Medical Center. 

Son of the late James Cecil and Mildred Hickman Hurst, Shot was born November 22, 1936 in Shirley, WV. A proud veteran, Shot served his country with honor in the United States Navy. His dedication and service to his nation were a testament to his character and commitment to the values he held dear. 

He was a devoted Christian and member to the South Parkersburg Baptist Church. He was known as a hard worker and a jack-of-all-trades having the ability to work on and fix anything. He enjoyed tractors, the outdoors, and was an avid card player. However, if you ever had the chance to play Rummikub with him, you know he had the best cheating skills and probably won every time. Shot's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family and friends, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. His kindness, generosity, and compassion is a true legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Jula Faye Bowie Hurst and Barbara Anne Jack Hurst; brothers, Howard, Clarence, Harold, Oakley, and Calvin Hurst; and sisters, Virginia Gilchrist, Edith Shwartzfager, Elsie Lamp, Ruth Hurst, Janice Hurst, Gladys Jackson, Karen Hernandez, and Helen Hardesty. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Teresa Moody (Larry), Annie Hurst, Regina Adkins (Scott), and Michele Freeland; sons, David Galloway and Matthew Galloway, sister, Carol Wells (Lynn); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats. 

Visitation will take place Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home Pike from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Military Honors by American Legion Post #15 and Pr. Adam Paff and Pr. Jimmie Cox officiating. A burial will follow at Lamberton Cemetery in Ellenboro.
