Richard “Rick” Matheny, 51, of Vienna, WV. passed away peacefully after a long battle of cardiac and kidney failure, on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. He was a 1986 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he played football. He also attended Marshall University and WVU-Parkersburg, then in training to become a welder/electrician when tragedy struck and he became disabled. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, loved Nascar and Earnhart, Jr, and loved watching golf with his family after Sunday dinners. But his favorite sport was fishing with his buddies and his nieces. Rick is survived by his loving mother, Janet Matheny of Vienna; his sister, Janie Matheny-Duckworth of Vienna and his three immensely special nieces, Sydney Duckworth of Vienna, Emily Duckworth (Zachary Ferrier) of Mineral Wells, and Caitlin Duckworth (Shawn Miller) of Parkersburg. In addition, he is survived by his two best friends and honorary brothers, Oakley “Junior” Stephens and Dony Powell. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins near and far. Special mention goes to Robby Swain, for whom “Uncle Rick” tried for years to fix up that Camaro and never quite got it finished, but he sure loved him enough to work at it; and Dylan and Morgan Powell who were also loved by their honorary “Uncle Rick”. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gene Matheny. At Rick’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Lambert-Tatman of Vienna will preside over his burial.
