Philip Edward McDaniel

Philip and his loving wife Iris and son Gregory had resided first in Mineral Wells and then in Vienna, West Virginia since 2003. Philip was born in Hurricane, West Virginia and was raised in and around Charleston, West Virginia.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents Pearl (Ingram) McDaniel and Everett McDaniel. Siblings Juanita (Duffield) Krechman, Janet (McDaniel) Harris, Ruth (McDaniel) Goldsberry, two brothers Jerry McDaniel and Richard McDaniel.

Philip is survived by his wife Iris, his son Gregory, his daughter-in-law Amanda McDaniel, sister Delores Dunlap of Firestone, CO, grand-daughter Megan (McDaniel) Skinner, husband Alex Skinner and great-grandson Jackson Skinner.

Philip was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School – Class of 1967.

Philip was a member of The West Virginia Glee Club where he sang baritone and toured the northeast with the glee club. Philip continued his education and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (4.0 GPA) – Hawaii Pacific University, a Master of Science in Systems Management (3.975 GPA) – University of Southern California, where Philip received one A minus due to a group project with three officer's, him being an enlisted service member of the group where they wouldn’t let him participate, resulted in a, A minus, for the course instead of an A where he had gotten an A in all other courses that he ever took, as well as a Master of Science in Information Systems.

Philip was a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer of The United States Navy. His honorable and proud service to our great nation included basic military training followed by fifty-four weeks of electronic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Philip’s first duty station was Summit in The Panama Canal Zone early on in his naval career. After Summit, Philip attended six months of advanced electronic equipment training in San Diego and Mare Island Naval Station, California before reporting for a three-year tour of duty aboard U.S.S. Sample FF-1048. While stationed aboard The U.S.S. Sample Philip completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific as part of a naval battle group making port calls while on patrol in Alaska, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. Philip held a Top-Secret Clearance on every assignment from U.S.S. Sample FF-1048 on.

Further naval service included Fleet Training Group (FTG) – Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as a TraPac Master Training Specialist as well as an instructor of numerous three-week courses teaching solid state theory and digital electronics. Further service while stationed at FTG included conducting refresher training on-board various U.S. Navy vessels stationed in and around Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S. Coast Guard cutters, Buoy tenders and Ice breakers. FTG duties included training allied sailors of foreign countries how to survive in a multitude of combat situations aboard their respective vessels. For his service while stationed at FTG, Senior Chief McDaniel was awarded The Navy Commendation Medal.

Senior Chief McDaniel rounded out his naval career with a deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard U.S.S. Coronado AGF-11 as part of Joint Task Force Middle East under the command of Admiral Less during the Iran/Iraq war. Senior Chief McDaniel was awarded The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service during this deployment.

During his career in the U.S. Navy, Philip earned The Navy Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Award with Silver Star, Battle “E” Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Bronze Star and The National Defense Ribbon.

Philip lived his life with a positive attitude and above all always “doing the right thing” He will be greatly missed by all those whose life he touched.
