Phillip “Pooch” Smith, 77 of Davisville, W.Va. passed away Aug. 18, 2015 at his residence.He was born Jan. 10, 1938 in Marietta, Ohio a son of the late Harold and Evelyn Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of PHS where he participated in football and wrestling. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from the 1092nd Engineer Battalion of the National Guard after 23 years of service. He retired from Ormet-Rolling in Hannibal, Ohio and worked at the Memorial Bridge in Parkersburg for many years. Pooch was a member of the Masonic Lodge #169 in Parkersburg, was a member of both the Scottish and York Rite, Nemesis Temple Motorized Unit, and the Color Guard of the American Legion Post 15.He was a founding father of the PeeWee Football League in the area and was a 28 year member of the Chain Gang for PHS Football. He was a member of the YMCA, enjoyedgolf and loved his two “girls”, Izzy and Maddie.Pooch is survived by his wife, Joy Ruble Smith who he married Jan. 31, 1991; his children, Kay Mullenix (Bert) of Harrisville, W.Va., Belinda Lowery (Andy) of Parkersburg, Kenny Smith of Parkersburg,Michele Hess (Brian) of Parkersburg and Adam Miller (Tina) of Parkersburg; two sisters, Dianna Miller (Roger) of Indiana and Shiela Tanner of Vienna, W.Va.; two brothers, H.K. Smith (Janet) of Parkersburg and Allan Johnson (Jan) of Tennessee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jim Tanner.Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Pastor Rick Haught officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with burial at a later date.Donations may be made in Pooch's memory to the American Legion Post 15 Color Guard or the Parkersburg Humane Society.
