Paul Edward Deem, 90, of Vienna passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, on December 27, 2017. He was born in 1927 in Clendenin, WV., to Ruby B. Allen and Amos W. Deem. Upon graduation from Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, WV he enlisted in the Navy. He served two tours with the Navy, stationed in and around China, The Philippines and The Mediterranean Sea. Paul then finished his Engineering degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV in 1955. He met and married Arlene Sellers. Together they raised three girls. Between home life and work Paul found time to be a Scout leader here in Parkersburg with troop 103. He also loved to go Scuba diving when the opportunity arose. During Paul’s lengthy career, one of his favorite jobs was working at Corning Glass, where he developed glass beads and redesigned the yellow beakers. He later became a co-founder of Machine Controls Corp. in Mentor, OH. After retiring from Walker Systems Paul had more time for deep sea and mountain fishing, church activities and the Masonic lodge, all of which were dear to his heart. He was a long standing member of the Vienna Baptist Church, and a Master Mason of 64 years. Paul leaves behind, his wife of 62 years, Arlene; daughters, Deanna Deem of Vienna, WV., Marcia Hill of Vienna, WV.; and his granddaughter, Sarah Deem also of Vienna, WV. He is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Ruby Deem; daughter Deborah Deem; and sister, Dorothy McGhee. Funeral services will be held at the Vienna Baptist Church Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Bill Brown officiating and Pastor Dennis Pratt assisting. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg with full Military Rites by American Legion Post #15 and Vienna Lodge #172 will perform Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
