Olan D. Hammer

Olan Durell Hammer, 86 of Parkersburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at home surrounded by friends and family.

He was born in Calhoun County, WV, on April 1, 1939, the son of Martin V. and Theda V. (Mathess) Hammer. Olan was an electrician in the US Navy from 1957-1961. He worked as a mechanic for Villers Motors, self-employed in Hotel Renovation and a valued employee of H&H Enterprises, Inc. Olan enjoyed farming, outdoors and hunting.

He is survived by his children, Leonard D. (Sandy), Rodney P. (Ann), Anthony M. (Kim) all of Parkersburg and Marcy D. Heater of Marietta, OH; one brother, Larry Hammer (Becky); three sisters, Edwanna Dillon, Joyce Gherke, and Evonne Hickenbottom (Jim); sister-in-law, Helen Newbanks of Arizona; one brother-in-law, James Cline of Coolville, OH; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Olan was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alice Mae Hammer; one son, Olan Douglas Hammer; one brother, Argyle Hammer; eight brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, April 7, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Tuesday, April 8 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm with services at 1:00 pm at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at Deerwalk Fire Department on Deerwalk Hwy and Rt. 50 for a memorial dinner for Olan D. and Alice M. (Cline) Hammer on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, food and drinks provided.

The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the nurses, doctors and staff at Home Health Hospice for the special comfort and care our father received in his last months of life.
