Nyoka Jean Brooks, 70, of Parkersburg W. Va. Passed away after complications from surgery, Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born February 8, 1956 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Aldean Andrew Ayers, Sr. and Belva Olive Barker Ayers.
Nyoka was a loving, kindhearted, and funny person, but don’t let that fool you, she could get feisty at times. Nyoka loved taking care of her elderly neighbors. She loved cooking, taking walks, listening to her music, going out to eat, traveling, and just spending time with her children and granddaughter. She loved cooking her famous noodles and friend chicken, and inviting everyone over for dinner. She especially enjoyed baking cookies with her granddaughter Serenity where they could be found laughing and being goofballs together. They always made sure the frog cookie jar she kept in the kitchen was full!
She is survived by her children, Nyoka Raie Brooks, Brandon Ray Brooks, and Ricky Lee Andrew Brooks; two grandchildren, Serenity Ava Joan Umsteadt and Amelia Leanne Rose Brooks; and her sister, Eileen Kelly.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Ricky, Leroy, and Andrew Ayers and three sisters, Twila Gabbert, Della Dornon, and Debbie Ayers.
There will be a private family Celebration of Life held at Beechwood Presbyterian Church at a later date.
Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkesburg, has been entrusted with Nyoka’s final arrangements and are honored to serve her family.
