Norma Lee Goudy Powell, 90, of Parkersburg passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. She was born December 28, 1928, in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Edward S. and Nellie R. Riley Goudy. Norma was a 1947 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She was a switchboard operator at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the C&P Telephone Company before becoming a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Edward Powell (Tammy) of Vienna and Terry Lee Powell of Parkersburg, two granddaughters, Sheri Adams of Parkersburg and Megan Underwood (David) of Vienna, three great-grandchildren Nicole Landis of Vienna and Emmy and Cameron Underwood of Vienna, one sister Noma Jean Copenhaver (Hazen) of Brooksville, FL, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Junior Powell, in 2011, infant son James Lester Powell, sisters Dorthea Stephens, Goldie Kesterson and four infant brothers. Services will be Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11am at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna, WV with Dr. David Carrico officiating. Family will receive visitors from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the 5 North Nursing staff for their loving and compassionate care of Norma and her family, Emergency Department staff, Palliative Care Nurse, and Amedisys Hospice staff. Everyone who knew Norma knows how much she loved reading, and most of all her grandchildren, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neale Elementary School in Vienna, WV to purchase children’s books for their library. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
