Norma Jean Backus, 69 of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away March 30, 2015 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Belpre Campus. She was born Nov. 6, 1945 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Russell and Cora Hoselton Clem. She was a 1963 graduate of Parkersburg High School and worked at the Parkersburg News & Sentinel. She retired from the Bureau of Public Debt after 15 years of service as a keypunch operator. After retirement she worked as a cashier with the Russ Clem Auctioneers. She loved needlepoint and crocheting.Norma is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard C. Backus; three children, Brenda Tychan (Terry) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Richard Backus, Jr. (Linda) of Marietta, OH and Theresa Dunn (Ian) of Doha, Qatar; two grandchildren, Mindy Olfert (Landon) of Lustre, MT and Barry Backus (Megan) of Little Hocking, OH; a brother, Russ Clem Jr. (Susie) of Washington, W.Va.; three nieces, Tish Clem-Jarvis (Aaron) of Williamstown, W.Va., Debi Poling (Harry) of Parkersburg, and Kimberly Garst (Tim) of Columbus, OH; and a nephew, Tim Clem of Parkersburg. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Clem and Bob Clem; a sister, Linda Clem; and a nephew, Robert Allen Clem.Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Pastor Don Yeager officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
