Nancy Jean (Strimer) Bailey, 67 years old, went to be with our Lord and savior on January 7, 2018 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family during this peaceful transition. She was born in Parkersburg, WV on March 1, 1950 to Orpha (Lockhart) and Albert Strimer. She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 36 years, George D. Bailey, Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Bailey (Nathan Arnett) and Patricia Bailey, as well as grandchildren Benjamin Arnett, Lauren Arnett, Allison Bailey, and Ainsley Bailey, all of Charleston, WV. Her siblings include Patricia (John) Miller of Belpre, OH; Richard (Nancy) Strimer of Jupiter, FL; Michael (Terri) Strimer of Williamstown, WV; Daniel (Lena) Strimer of Nashville, TN; and John (Annette) Strimer of St. Marys, WV as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws. Nancy attended Parkersburg High School, where she proudly sang with the a capella choir and graduated in 1968. She worked as a happy homemaker until returning to college and graduating from West Virginia State University in 1988. She and George were active members of the Jaycees and Jaycee-ettes—affording the opportunity to meet many of their closest and dearest friends throughout our state. Nancy served on local and state offices, including the JCI Senate. Nancy was a lifelong Lutheran and truly loved Jesus with all of her heart. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Parkersburg and worked as the church secretary for many years until moving to Charleston in 2007. She has been an active member at Lutheran Redeemer Church, participating in the Praise Band, Adult Choir, and Bible Study. Nancy was rather known for her seamstress skills—having helped many a family member and friend with mending and hemming needs. She enjoyed sewing outfits for her daughters when they were younger and more recently for her grandchildren. She crafted beautiful cross-stitched pieces as well as knitted scarves and prayer shawls. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was known for her infectious smile, kind heart, and tender demeanor, but most of all, for her obvious love and pride for her grandchildren. The visitation is Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home on 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11am at First Lutheran Church, 1701 19th Street, Parkersburg, WV. Officiants are Rev. Ian Reid, Rev. James F. Kinsler and Rev. John Strimer. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery next to her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
