Mildred Irene Gaston, 87, of Parkersburg, passed away January 9, 2026, at her residence. She was born September 7, 1936 in Wood County, a daughter to the late Harry L. and Norma A. Deem Davis.
She was employed for the Wood County B.O.E. as a school cook for 27 plus years. There was no child that went without in her lunch line. While employed, she made many lady friends that enjoyed getting together and having parties. She enjoyed all her many activities with her husband, Dayton, including square-dancing, parties with neighbors, friends, and siblings, many who are now gone. Stock car racing was also a big part of their lives for many years. In the past few years, they have made many new friends at the local auctions and music festivals. She missed them all when she became ill.
Mildred was a beloved wife of Dayton for 70 years and an exceptional mother to Patricia Malone (Mark) of Vienna, Rebecca Houser (Thomas) of Parkersburg, Steven Gaston (Michelle) of Davisville. She was a wonderful and giving grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly. She also leaves behind a brother, Delbert Davis (Vickie) of Michigan and daughter-in-law, Fran Gaston.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Terry Gaston; one sister, JoAnn Emerson; and four brothers, Don, Harold, Charles, and Robert Davis.
The family would like to thank the caretakers of Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional care of their wife and mother.
Per Mildred’s final wishes, there will be no services at this time. Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, has been entrusted with Mildred’s final wishes and are honored to serve her family.
