Michael Edward Shirey

December 21, 1946 — February 23, 2013

Michael Edward Shirey, 66, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife, son, and daughter following a battle with cancer. He was born on December 21, 1946 in Lufkin, TX. Mike was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He worked as a professional engineer for Eramet (previously named Union Carbide and Elkem). Following his retirement in 2003, Mike began his “second career”, playing golf at Oxbow. He also enjoyed frequent visits to Myrtle Beach.Mike is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Joanne Shirey of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; his daughter, Stacey Thompson of Germantown, MD; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Andrea (Riel) Shirey of Parkersburg, W.Va.; his grandsons, Connor and Isaac Shirey; his father, Edward Shirey of Cumberland, MD; his sister and brother-in-law, Gaye (Shirey) and Lionel Meyer of Gaithersburg, MD; his sister, Amy Shirey of Cumberland, MD; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Shirey.Visitation will be held at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. on Tuesday Feb. 26, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Mineral Wells, with Pastor Kevin Lantz officiating.
