Melvin Richard Smith

Melvin Richard Smith 65, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Marietta Care & Rehabilitation after an extended illness.He was born September 10, 1946 in Parkersburg, the son of the late Archie M. and Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Nolan Smith.Melvin retired from Dravo Corporation as a crane operator and was a self taught master of numerous crafts. He enjoyed quilting, woodworking, painting, fishing and hunting. Melvin was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca Hyde Smith; two sons, Lyle R. Smith of Conway, S.C. and Jason E. Smith (Kristy) of Marietta, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Christian of Michigan, Taylor of Marietta, Ohio, and Kylie, Austin and Seth, of Conway, S.C.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father John Gallagher officiating. Inurnment will be in the Walker Cemetery in Walker, W.Va. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Christian Wake Services to follow at 8:00 P.M.
