She was born March 23, 1941 in Arnold’s Creek, WV, daughter of the late Arthur Nelson and Martha Perine-Nelson. Mary Lou graduated from Harrisville High School. She was employed as a bank teller at Union Bank in Harrisville and as a clerk at the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Tax Office. An avid piano player, she could play any song by ear and acted as pianist for the First Apostolic Church in Harrisville. She loved yard sales, card games, and crossword puzzles. She married the love of her life and former high school sweetheart, Duane H. Cox in 1988 and they were together until his passing in 2016. In their retirement years, they split their time between homes in Lady Lake, FL and Vienna, WV. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Jeannine Jayne Wilson-Burwell and her son, Rock Shayne Wilson, both children of her previous spouse J.B. Wilson, deceased, and step-daughters, Angie Dotson, Elizabeth Buzzard and Jodi Riggs; grandchildren, Brandi, Brock and Quinn Burwell, Timber, Sky and River Wilson; several step grandchildren; and step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Nelson and two sisters, Loretta Stickel and Sandra Terry. A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Lambert -Tatman Funeral Home located at 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, WV. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Jude. Donations can be mailed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
