Mary Ann Barclay

June 24, 1932 — July 6, 2015

Mary Ann, 83, went to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2015 at the Worthington Center in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was born in Parkersburg on June 24, 1932 to Archibald Wade Cook and Bertha (Butcher) Cook. She was a 1950 graduate of Parkersburg High School and enjoyed her job as a court reporter in Henderson, Tenn., as a legal secretary for George Shedan, and as a receptionist for Fairmont Foods, but her life's passion was her family and church. She was a faithful Christian having worshipped at many congregations of the Church of Christ, most notably at the North End, Rosemar Road, Lynn Street, and Camden Ave. congregations where she was a Bible class teacher and was a counselor at the church camp at Hervida.She loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Dolphins and was a Parkersburg Big Reds fan. She was very proud of her Cook family heritage, her father's time as Fire Chief in Parkersburg and mother's time as deputy county clerk for Wood County.She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Ann Barclay (Greene) of Parkersburg; her son, Patrick Cook (Kimberly) Barclay of Parkersburg; close friend, Clara (Mae) Varner of Parkersburg; first cousins, Richard Lynn (Eva) Cook of Vienna, W.Va., Mary Virginia Goins of Parkersburg, and Charlotte (Darrell) Haught of Vienna; niece, Nancy (Larry) Province of North Hills, who introduced Ron and Mary Ann;grandchildren, Angie Ivey of Belpre, Ohio, Sonya (Airrion) Smith of Belpre, Richard (Jennifer) Greene of Parkersburg, Joshua (Felicia) Barclay of Parkersburg, and Jacob (Amanda) Barclay of Jane Lew, W.Va.; great-grandchildren, Zak, Thomas, Saebra, Max, Jodriana, Dani, Kenadie; and her beloved dog Cinders.In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Ron Barclay; and sister, Mary Jacqueline (Jacquie) Cook.Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, July10, 2015 at the Camden Ave. Church of Christ with Dana Slingluff officiating. Interment will follow at the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.The family would like to thank the staff at Worthington Manor for the love and kindness given to Mary Ann.
