Marie Burton Flaherty, 98, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Care Haven of Pleasants, Belmont, W.Va.She was born February 20, 1916, in Gilmer County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Berkley and Nellie Alfred Barbarow.Marie was a graduate of Troy High School in 1935 and Glenville State College.She was a teacher, homemaker, mail carrier and a repair/operator of linotype machines. She enjoyed life and was devoted to her family; enjoying flowers, traveling and working puzzles. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, later attending Red Hill United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Glenville chapter of the Eastern Star.She is survived by her two sons, Donald Duane Burton (Sharon) and Gary E. Burton both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one step-daughter, Fay Ovenall of Wilmington, Delaware; three sisters, Lois Bode, Clendenin, W.Va., Janice Truitt, Salisbury, MD, Phyllis Ruppert, Troy, W.Va.; a brother, Donald Barbarow, Ripley, W.Va.; three step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her first husband, Justin E. Burton and second husband, Frank S. Flaherty; a brother, Berkley Barbarow, Jr., two sisters, Marjorie Woofter and Betty Bracco, a step daughter, Amy Marshalewski.Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, W.Va.Funeral services, led by Rev. Mary Zimmer, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Troy, W.Va., Gilmer County.
